PoP MOVES Australia/Australasia is in the process of emergence as one of the nodes of the PoP MOVES international network, since popular dance scholarship is not as prominent and more dispersed across the region. Our aim is to find and then connect scholars working on popular dance and performance to create meaningful bridges and encounters between the varied and dispersed networks making up the Australia/Australasia region. This involves negotiating ways to connect and create events that do not necessarily require physical attendance, taking into consideration that travel is expensive and not always accessible and possible for all. By creating virtual opportunities for mutually stimulating exchanges between researchers and popular dancers/performers, we hope to be able to create support and connections that will make Australian/Australasian popular dance and performance research more interconnected and visible.
